EVERTON AIMING HIGH WITH RONALD KOEMAN AT THE HELM.
Everton are expected to appoint Dutch legendRonald Koeman in the next 48 hours, with reports of a compensation fee of around £5million being reached with current club Southampton.
The former-Feyenoord boss has helped the Saints finish in eight and sixth place in thePremier League table, despite a number of key players leaving the club. Koeman’s recruitment has been impressive and he has built a strong squad of players on the south coast.
During Koeman’s time at Southampton, Everton have struggled under the stewardship of Spanish boss Roberto Martinez, finishing 11th in consecutive seasons, despite finishing in fifth in his debut campaign as Toffees boss.
It has been all change at Goodison Park in recent months, as former-Arsenal shareholder Farhad Moshiri has bought into the club as the majority shareholder. Moshiri wanted a more hands on role at a club and he seems to have got that on Merseyside.
He has vowed to give the club’s new boss money to sign spend and seems determined to restore Everton to the top of the English football tree. The appointment of Koeman is an ambitious one and the clubs ambition does not end there as they look to appoint a high-profile director of football.
All this adds up to exciting times for Evertonians who for so long have seen their club punch above their finance weight despite being one of English football’s traditional powerhouses.
The arrival of Koeman will see expectations rise amongst the Everton fans. The Dutchman will take over a squad of talented, if unsettled players at Everton. With a big transfer kitty he could very be aiming very high next season, as the Toffees look to challenge for an elusive top-four spot in the new campaign.
